Classroom illustration with students and teacher

As you may know, the first half hour of our morning is dedicated to Advisory (HS) and Morning Meeting (ES). It is during this time that our students and staff are working on Social Emotional Learning through the teaching of the Leadworthy Characteristics in the Capturing Kids Hearts curriculum. A typical period consists of attendance, checking in with students, and a short lesson on the focus of the month, which includes discussion, short videos, journal prompts, activities, etc. There is time within Advisory/Morning Meeting to work on goal setting when we are coming up on short cycle assessment administration and there are scheduled dates where the High School teachers and students can have class meetings. This time is utilized to create positive relationships amongst students and between the teachers and students as well.

Grading for this mini-class is based on attendance and participation. Each week, students start with 100 points. If a student is more than 10 minutes late to class, the are deducted 5 points. If a student is absent and doesn't bring an excuse, they are deducted 10 points. The participation grade, is entirely in the students hands, if they choose not to participate in the discussions or other activities, they will not receive the full possible points and their grade will be affected. The attendance points and participation points are cumulative throughout the week. At the end of each week, teachers will enter the grades into PowerSchool. This grade is calculated into their G.P.A. so please encourage your student to try their hardest and do their best.
